FRIDAY, JULY 1, 2005
The regular meeting of the Monson Cemetery Commissioners convened at 8:30 a.m. in the office at 32 Wilbraham Road. In attendance were Julian E. Szarlan, Albert T. Wilcox, Robert E. Pease, Paul B. Lovell, John R. Nothe and Gaylin G. Bingle.
The Recording Secretary read the meeting minutes of June 3, 2005. Mr. Pease made a motion to accept the minutes as read. Mr. Wilcox seconded the motion.
OLD BUSINESS:
1. Stonewall in Hillside – Jim Finnegan did call Mr. Szarlan and said he still doesn’t have a price yet on the repair of the stonewall in section F in Hillside Cemetery. Mr. Finnegan said they are running into difficulties with the wall. Mr. Finnegan will be meeting Mr. Szarlan at the wall on Tuesday, July 5th, at 9:00 a.m. to explain the problems. One of the problems the contractor is facing is what to do with the stones during the reconstruction work on the stonewall.
2. Opening Fees – Paul said he hasn’t had a chance to call other cemeteries in the area regarding their prices. Paul said he did speak with Jim Adams, a Brimfield Cemetery Commissioner, during a funeral and that Mr. Adams stated they charge $75.00 for cremation burials, we currently charge $60.00. Brimfield charges approximately $350.00 on full interments, we currently charge $250.00. Mr. Szarlan said he would still like to see a list of fees from other local towns. Mr. Wilcox made a motion to leave the cremation opening fee at $60.00, but to increase the cost to $100.00, if an urn vault is used. Mr. Szarlan seconded the motion. Mr. Pease was against
any fee increases.
NEW BUSINESS:
1. New Employee Part-time Seasonal – Paul said he would like to hire a seasonal employee for the month of July only, for trimming shrubs. Mr. Pease made a motion to hire someone for the month of July. Mr. Wilcox seconded the motion.
2. Snow on Roof of Building – Mr. Wilcox said he would call Brian Mushenko tonight.
At 9:55 a.m. Mr. Pease made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Mr. Wilcox seconded the motion.
Respectfully Submitted,
Gaylin Bingle
